Scoil San Nioclás prepare for Confirmation 2016.

On the 9th of January, the children of 5th and 6th had to attend a Confirmation commitment mass in Windgap church. Father ‘O Farrell said the mass. It was the same as every other mass, except after the Gospel, Father O’ Farrell called out the names of all the 5th and 6th class children, making their confirmation to the altar. Then we handed our commitment certificates to the priest. But before we handed over our certificates the priest asked all the Confirmation children to stand up, then he asked us some questions and we responded with 'I do' or 'we will'. Then he asked our parents to do the same and they also had to answer some questions. After that mass continued as normal.

Peace Proms 2016
Windgap N.S. has been busy the past few weeks preparing for the annual peace proms.
Led by our music teacher, Mrs. Malone, ‘Peace Proms’ is an event that brings students from the North and South of Ireland together. It’s when all the school choirs gather into one place and sing and perform in front of a massive  audience. This year ‘Peace Proms’  is back in Cillín Hill, where it was previously staged. Previous  songlists have  included hits like ‘Grease Lightning’ and ‘World In Union’.
This year we are singing different songs like ‘Together’, ‘Ireland’s Call’ and ‘Imagine’. These are only three of the 72 songs, we have to sing for Peace Proms. Not everyone is going but the people that are, will hopefully will have a spectacular time at the concert. I know I will.

Windgap Community Celebrates a Great Day for All!!   By Aoibheann Holden

Windgap community celebrated the opening of the extension to Scoil San Nicolas and the opening of the community playground on Sunday 10th May. It was a very vibrant and energetic day for the young and old.

At first there was a mass outside the school where the school extension and playground were blessed and baptised. The weather was misty with a cold breeze.

After the mass all the pupils of Windgap N.S received a red or white balloon from Julie O’ Brien. Everyone then progressed over to the new school extension where the oldest pupil of the school, Eoin O’ Brien aged 13, and the youngest pupil in the school, Abby Vaughan aged 4, cut the ribbon to officially open the extension to the school. Each child then let off his/her balloon.

We then proceeded to the playground where Ciara O’Shea, daughter of Marie O’Shea programme leader, and James Kelly, the son of Barbara Power programme leader, cut the ribbon to officially open the playground. The rest of this ecstatic day included youngsters playing in the playground and food and drink in the hall.

These two new facilities will be a great joy to the Windgap community and will be enjoyed by the young and old for many years to come!

Match Report 2014 by Mark McCoy

Match Report

On March 25th the boys school hurling team had a hurling match. It was an atrociously bleak and wet day. Windgap got off to a great start by scoring two goals inside the first ten minutes. Everyone was chilled to the bone, including referee Mr O`Halloran. Galmoy slowly got back into the match by levelling up the score. It was coming to the end of the first half with Galmoy were winning, but a late goal from Windgap saw them take a meagre lead to the second half.

The second half commenced at a fast pace. Windgap were the first to score with another goal from Jack Doyle. Galmoy threatened a goal but an immense performance from the backs held Galmoy off. The substitution of Karl McCoy made and instant impact with him scoring a goal. Windgap were now three goals up and heading for a victory. Shortly afterwards the final whistle was blown by the referee. It was a fantastic victory for Windgap and a disappointing defeat for Galmoy.

CEOL AGUS CRAIC REPORT

Last Friday 20/3/2015 we held ‘Ceol agus Craic’ in Windgap parish hall. Everybody from Windgap N.S.gathered there. First, we sang ‘An Hocai Pocai.’ Then First and Second class played  ‘I’ve Got a Skipping Rope” on the tin whistle. It sounded great. After that Junior's and Senior's sang “Currigh nua”.And you would know they had practiced! Then third and fourth sang ‘Flaoina Soilse’ (sky full of stars). After that, third, fourth, fifth and sixth sang “seo linn” and “an mbalach ar fad”.The junior's and senior's left at 1:50 pm because they had to go home at 2 pm. But the party didnt end there! When they left, fifth and sixth taught third, fourth, first and second the siege of Ennis dance. It was great fun and a laugh. Everybody loved it,and enjoyed themselves.
