Windgap Poetry Trail
Windgap’s first Poetry Trail and poetry booklet ‘A Way With Words’, funded through the Kilkenny County Council Arts Office and Poetry Ireland’s Writers-in-Residence programme, was launched April 28th (Poetry Day Ireland) with author Debbie Thomas.
The overall theme was ‘Regeneration’. Fifth and sixth class pupils guided by author Debbie Thomas, and older community members, reflected on family, home, the natural world and the flow and circle of life in Windgap.
Our whole school attended the launch where Kilkenny County Council Arts Officer Mary Butler spoke and explained how such trails can strengthen a community connection to a place. She then cut the ribbon and the poets took to the poetry tralls to give a reading of their poetry.
Our classes have already taken to the trail and have greatly enjoyed the variety of poems all enhanced by their beautiful and well-chosen homes throughout the village.
