Teagasc Environmental Advisers, Deirdre Glynn and Cathal Somers came to Scoil San Nioclás to talk about Soil Composition and Water Quality and the impact of pollutants on the environment. 5th & 6th Class pupils were brought outside to look at microbiomes and the organisms that inhabit them. They were amazed to see how many organisms live in the soil. Deirdre & Cathal explained how they can help protect soil and water quality by being mindful of what we add to them by way of chemicals, plastics and other solutions. It was a very hands on case study with the boys and girls engaged from start to finish. Many thanks to Deirdre & Cathal and the pupils received wheat pens as a momento.
